Last night, Mini Me and I headed to LEGO® Kidsfest Georgia. This traveling event for LEGO lovers of all ages was held at the Cobb Galleria Centre and will be open again today June 28th and tomorrow June 29th 9am-1:30pm or 3-7:30pm. Tickets available at www.legokidsfest.com allow participants entry for a particular half day session and with ample time to explore, build and enjoy the exhibits and and workshops.
KidsFest covered the entire conventional hall floor and was broken out with areas for hands on LEGO fun. Upon entering we were immediately blown away by the LEGO Model Museum. Featuring life size Superheroes, Disney Characters, Star Wars Characters and some amazing animals I was amazed by the size and detail in these creations…really the shading blew me away.
Behind the Museum, was The BIG Pile of Bricks. This was a huge hit with all the kids not only for building, but for climbing, digging and well burying. I found it a nice touch many of the areas had chairs for parents to sit down and take in all the wonder while their little ones got creative.
The build it areas were loads of fun. Our favorites
Lego Friends Heartlake City – where we added a home and a school to add to the city
Disney Princess™ Fairytale – add you own creations to the magical scene complete with Castles and lakes. We received a free Rapunzel set for our efforts!
Build It Challenge Zone – The Emcee announced an object and the clock ticks to find the designer and builder of the most creative object. Spoiler alert: Our session ended in a tie, everyone won and received a Star Wars 54 piece set.
Art Wall – Armed with only a small square and one peg different colored bricks we enjoyed making our own piece of art to add to the display. Warning though on this one, they were taking down the bricks to ensure everyone had a full choice of colors available periodically, so if you want a family or group shot of all the artwork your party creates, hang together at the same time. We had 3 of the 4 of our party done and then when we went to hang up the 4th which took a little longer, the other 3 had already been removed.
LEGO MARVEL Super Heroes – We hit the Marvel Super Heroes Area last. I have to say, the life size Spiderman photo opportunity was one of my very favorite LEGO creations. After after receiving our complementary photo – they were size nice and asked how many copies our family wanted, we took in the Wall of Super Hero Emblems where you can create your own and display and took in the Super Hero Display featuring – loved the detail and seeing Wolverine.
There truly is something for all, young, old, boys girls…they have it all! Other build it areas:
DUPLO for ages 1.5-5
Race Ramps – build and race your cars
TECHNIC Remote Control Racers
The LEGO Movie
Creation Nation – available for view next week at www.legokidsfest.com
Lots of attendees enjoyed the Master Builder’s Academy hosted by builder Dan. I seriously need directions for my LEGOS and it was interesting hearing about how models were made, some building skills and all about the amazing LEGO Brick. The show raffled off five Masters Builders Sets to 5 Lucky Winners – had to be present to win.
After exercising your creativity, one might need some refreshment. Never fear, food and beverage were available for sale to keep builders hydrated and fed. Hey, all that building takes some energy.
A huge Lego Retail area with all the newest products and sets was a available for those wanting to add to their LEGO collections. And I will say, if you spent lots of your allowance your were rewarded with some goodies thrown in for free.
Final thoughts: We had a blast at LEGO KidsFest. I was impressed with the friendliness and excitement of those working the exhibits. The layout was spread out enough that I never felt crowded and we got to do all we wanted to do, with basically no waiting. Each area was “fenced in” so it was easy to keep up with the little ones when instructed “stay in this area” – easy to see the area. Parking was FREE, always a nice bonus and the location was easily accessible off the highway. Really everything WAS Awesome.
