We just got back from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where the Savvy and Sassy family had the amazing opportunity to visit Dollywood. We were at Dollywood for the Smoky Mountain Christmas as part of a blogging opportunity with US Family Guide. The Smoky Mountain Christmas runs at Dollywood with daily events through January 3, 2015.
Dollywood is one of the top themed entertainment destinations in the US. The 150 acre family adventure park is filled with mountain themed attractions, world class rides and award winning festivals and shows.
This was our first visit to Dollywood and we had an amazing time. Our visit to Dollywood was a day packed with fun in a family friendly environment. There are Christmas activities everywhere. From the fantastic production of Dollywoods A Christmas Carol to the night time Parade of Lights there wasn't a minute without Christmas fun.
Our daughter's favorite part of the day was the visit to Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Junction where she met Clarice and Bumble at the character experience. There were also games and activities to keep her entertained for quite a while.
The amazing treats at Dollywood will definitely keep you hungry. With the cooler weather there were lots of areas selling hot apple cider and hot chocolate. You could also roast marshmallows. The aroma of cinnamon almonds, kettle corn and the homemade cinnamon bread (My husband said it was delicious) filled air. The handmade candy canes and peppermint taffy are a delectable treat that would be perfect for Christmas giving.
Being gluten free I was a little hesitant about eating at a theme park. I was incredibly surprised by variety of dining options available for me. We chose to dine at Aunt Granny's which is an all you can eat buffet. I obviously had concerns but the friendly wait staff was happy to explain my options and even brought me turkey without gravy and stuffing from the back kitchen. My meal was enjoyable and most importantly, I felt great after eating it.
If you are visiting Dollywood and have food allergies or dietary concerns, make sure you visit Guest Services to get information on their impressive "Start Fresh" program. Start Fresh allows Guests to make an informed dining decision by providing them with a notebook that provides a full list of ingredients for each menu item. In addition to the steps the restaurant staff will follow to ensure you have a positive dining experience. If you have severe food allergies Dollywood does recommend you call in advance to your trip.
One of our favorite activities as a family of the day was the ride aboard the Dollywood Express. The Dollywood Express is an authentic 110-ton coal-fired steam engine took us on a five-mile ride through the beautiful foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Make sure you get some hot cocoa for your ride.
We also got to see Santa at his workshop (it was a fantastic place to warm up), visited the beautiful Nativity outside of Dolly's Chapel, enjoyed the beautiful music of the Appalachian Christmas and marveled in the beauty of thousands of Christmas lights lighting up the park.
We truly enjoyed our visit to Dollywood, it was an amazing Christmas time experience. I look forward to visiting again during the summer to enjoy the water rides. For more information about Dollywood and their Christmas Memories package visit the Dollywood website. There are also special promotions for tickets, from now until January 2nd, arrive after 6pm and get the next day free. You can also find Dollywood on Facebook or follow Dollywood on Twitter and Instagram.
